Moving Forward

Moving helps with life's ups and downs. After the election, I was grateful to have other things to focus on.

Suddenly, my morning walk outside with my husband became even more precious. I look to the trees and their beautiful leaves for tranquility and guidance. My Nia class helps me stay focused on the present moment through music and movement. My students are still listening to Now, by Dave Carroll—this great song I found to soothe themselves.

I am starting a new massage business, Haven, that will kick off in January. David Spratte and his team at Halo 22 jumped into gear to get my website ready to sell gift certificates now through 2025.

From a Nia playshop I co-taught many years ago, I discovered my love of puzzles. Through my puzzle exchange club, I learned about speed puzzling and have been going non-stop ever since. I did a speed puzzle on the night of the election, and it definitely kept my stress at bay. Now, I have teamed up with fellow speed puzzlers I met on Facebook to compete at the National Puzzles Championship in DC this April. It will also be at the height of cherry blossom season. Woohoo!

Yesterday and this morning, I whipped up a class with songs from various Nia routines. I asked my body, mind, and spirit what it wanted to move to, and wallah, it came together. I was following my bliss.

The class was fun until the end when I came across an extra song that I didn’t get to practice. Usually, my black belt training prepares me to go with the flow and improvise. This time, I was thrown off, and the result was an awkward ending. It’s been awhile since that has happened to me. I vented to a fellow black belt teacher and felt better.

This blog post was already floating around in my brain before class, so I embraced the message. I am grateful I had the awareness of how I can improve in future classes. Time to let it go and move forward.
